Appeal For Photographs Research and Information
The following guidlines explain the type of information we require and request for the archive and website. For those who wish to post copies of photographs, documents or information please email for postal address. Please note that only copies of photographs or documents should be posted, as we are unable to return any material donated. All contributors of photographs or information that are published in this archive, will be duly acknowledged here and on the respective cemetery or memorial page.

The principle aim of this project, is to find and add photographs of individuals to this archive, thereby preserving their image for posterity.
Any images, of those commemorated on this website, are sought. Either as an individual photograph or as part of a group. please try and identify any or all persons in any images forwarded and provide as much information about that person as possible.
If possible, please scan images in as high a resolution as possible (i.e.300dpi or minimum of 1000 pixels wide). Jpeg images are also prefered. However, any image, regardless of condition or quality will be accepted and appreciated.
Please include, if known, source, details of location, date that photograph was taken and photographer, so full credits and acknowledgements can be published in this archive.

Photographs of any original or temporary grave markers are sought for adding to the memorial pages.
If possible, please scan images in as high a resolution as possible (i.e.300dpi or minimum of 1000 pixels wide). Jpeg images are also prefered. However, any image, regardless of condition or quility will be accepted and appreciated.

Please note that photographs of headstones in Normandy, as they are today, are NOT required, unless they include images of relatives or veterans visiting the headstone to pay their respects. Or, if they include a photograph of the individual that has been placed next to the headstone.
Photographs of headstone of those who were killed, or died of wounds sustained in Normandy, who are buried outside Normandy (i.e. in the United Kingdom, USA or Canada) are welcome.
Documents and Information
about Individuals Requested
Documents and additional Information, not already on an individuals memorial page, are sought. This can include any of the following:
Full name, age, date of birth, unit, service, service number, next of kin, awards, medal entitlements, honours and details of active service.
Information about the unit they served with (including any official histories, war diaries or personal memoirs relating to that unit).
Copies of letters, journals, diaries or memoirs.
Copies of official notifications, awards, or letters from commanding officers or government departments.
Photographs of Cemeteries or
Churchyards from the 1940s, 1950s or 1960s Requested
Photographs of any war cemetery, churchyard, communal cemetery, isolated grave or temporary grave sites, from the 1940s, 1950s or 1960s are sought.

Photographs of the Normandy Battlefields Requested
Photographs of the Normandy battlefields in the 1940s are also sought.

Copies of Newspapers Articles
about Normandy or Individuals Requested
Copies of any contemporary national or local newspaper articles, from the 1940s, that relate to individuals killed in Normandy are sought.
Copies of any newspaper or magazine articles, contemporary or modern, that relate to any individual, burials, cemeteries or units in Normandy are also requested.
Please provide, if known, source i.e. name or details of newspaper, magazine or publication and publication date. So full credits and acknowledgements can be published in this archive.
Photographs of Units, Groups,
Vehicles, Aircraft or Ships Requested
Photographs of groups, units, battalions, are sought, along with images of any vehicles, aircraft or ships related to an individual.
Please provide, if known, source, location, date that photograph was taken and photographer. So full credits and acknowledgements can be published in this archive.
Copies of Regimental
and Unit Histories Requested
Copies of, or Information about, any regimental or unit histories of those who fought in Normandy are sought.
These will be used for reference to find additional information about the fallen. This information will then be included on the respective memorial pages in this archive.
Alternatively, please provide extracts and details about any individual mentioned in such a publication. Please provide, name of publication, publication date and author. So full credits and acknowledgements can be published in this archive.
Details of such publications will also be added to the Normandy Bibliography page that is provided on this website to help historians, researchers and relatives of the fallen to research additional information.
Copies of War Diaries, After Action Reports
Operation Record Books or Ships Logs Requested
Copies of any War Diaries, After Action Reports, Operation Record Books, Ships Logs or any other official documents recording the day by day accounts of any regiment, unit, squadron or ship during their action in Normandy.

relating to Individuals or Units Required
Information about and web address of any websites relating to individuals or units that were in Normandy are sought.
Links will be added to the respective memorial pages or section of this website.
APPEAL FOR INFORMATION
